Karen Ward is the Lead Physiotherapist in Sports and Exercise Medicine and an extended scope musculoskeletal practitioner at Nottingham University Hospital (NUH).
Karen graduated in 1987 and worked as a senior physiotherapist in orthopaedic rehabilitation until 1997. In 1997 she undertook a postgraduate diploma in Academic and Practical Physiotherapy for Sports at the University of London. From 1997 to 2001, Karen worked as a senior sports physiotherapist at the Sports Injury Centre, Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, London. Karen took up her position as lead physiotherapist in sports and exercise medicine at NUH in 2002.
Karen has held various roles working with elite sports teams, including four years with National Division 1 Rugby, four years as lead physiotherapist for England Woman’s Lacrosse, five years with Girls under 18 and 21 Regional and National Golf, British Ski and Snowboard Federation, Winter Olympic Training Camps, World Alpine Ski Championship, British University Sport, British University Games and the World Alpine University Games.
Karen believes in a strong multidisciplinary approach to sports medicine diagnosis and management, working closely with orthopaedic and sport and exercise medicine consultants and alongside other members of the physiotherapy team at NUH. Karen works with patients of all ages to deliver manual therapy, individualised rehabilitation programs, along with advice and education. Her specialist interests include biomechanical analysis and management of tendonopathy.
