In November 2020 Dr Nicola Paine delivered an online public lecture on how we physiologically respond to stress – and is this bad for our health?

Dr Nicola Paine is a Lecturer in Health Psychology at Loughborough University. She specialises in the field of behavioural medicine, with interests in how short-term periods of stress affect our physiological functioning and overall health and wellbeing. In her research she investigates how our health behaviours – such as the time we spend active, how much time we spend sitting – can help or hinder the body’s physical response to stress.

Stress is something that can affect us all at various times within daily life. Dr Paine talked about the potential effects of stress on human health, and how our health behaviours can affect how our bodies physically respond to stress.
